Title: Very satisfied Date: January 15, 2010
Product Uses: main office and home monitor

Review:Overall I'm very satisfied with this monitor. As many others have said the picture is great. Lots of connectivity options. The ability to adjust the height is great.

Only two things come to mind by way of criticism:
- the USB and card readers are handy but are powered by the monitor instead of passed through from the USB of the PC. It would have been good if even two of the USB ports would stay powered on when you turn off the monitor.
- speaking of powering on and off, I HATE the power button. The touch sensor misses my touch at least 50% of the time. The touch sensor might be "cool" and possibly intended to keep the front of the monitor cleaner but it is still visibly a button so why not make it a button.

Title: Beautiful display and good value when on sale Date: December 20, 2009
Product Uses: hd movies/tv, Gaming, internet/general purpose computer montior

Review:I needed a new monitor and noticed this one was on sale for $600. I was still hesitant to drop that much money on a monitor but I wanted something that would allow me to really experience HD movies properly without having to buy an HD TV as well as a monitor.

This monitor perfectly lived up to my expectations in that area. Blu Ray movies look absolutely gorgeous on this and it is big enough with good enough picture quality that I don't have any desire to get a new TV anymore. Gaming and computer stuff also looks a lot better. Text is a lot easier to read and less hard on my eyes. I'd say it was worth the extra couple of hundred dollars over a budget monitor to get such a high quality piece of equipment.

Title: Excellent for the price (on sale, $599 CAD) Date: December 16, 2009
Product Uses: Gaming, multimedia, movies, web surfing, tv

Review:I purchased this monitor while it was on sale (Days of Dell) for $350 off. I was debating whether the U2410 would suffice, or whether I actually needed a slightly larger display (they both had the same native resolution, though the 27" would be better for movies as I tend to sit further back). Two colleagues had purchased the U2410, and were raving about it. There were some slight issues with a reddish tinge to images, and I felt that the panel was too new to have been properly field tested, so I waited for the 2709W to go on sale, which it eventually had.

This monitor provides a very good display for it's large pixel size (.303). I was hesitant at first, but am now glad everything works/looks fine. I use this display for everything.

- Gaming (fast paced and low paced) - Great
- Multimedia (Capture NX2, PS CS3) - Great
- Movies (Blue Ray) - Great
- Consoles (Wii, Xbox 360) - Great

The native resolution (1920x1200) does not pose a real problem when dealing with 1080P (1920x1080) resolutions.

Neutral Items:
The "high-tech" control panel has a nasty sound (which can be disabled). Also, the control panel is heat sensitive, so you will need to move your finger off the buttons (almost 3/4" until it does not register your finger any more) to press another selection; i.e If you wanted to navigate through the menu, you will need to completely remove your finger from the button you are currently on in order to press another button. We are all used to gliding our fingers across physical buttons, but new devices (iphones, tablets, etc), now require us to be more physical.

Be sure to calibrate the monitor (with a Spyder) to get the best colour profile out of it.

Title: Great monitor for the price - Date: November 6, 2009
Product Uses: photo editing

Review:As a photographer I needed dual monitors with the ability to calibrate - so far I am very happy with the purchase of these two 27 inchers. Takes up a lot of desk real estate, but great bang for the buck.

I love the fact that there are usb and card readers in the monitor - nice touch.

Recommended for photographers and designers.

Title: Good display, terrible support Date: August 30, 2009
Product Uses: Connecting with Friends, Finances, Gaming, graphic editing

Review:After receiving my 2709W and plugging it in, I enjoyed the display. The clarity is great. 27" is a great size, even at 1920x1200. The colors look over-exposed at first, but then you start to really like them after a short time. Very nice.

Pros
- Clarity
- Picture
- Colors, once you get used to them
- Stylish

Cons
- Physically leaning to right with no adjustment possible (fixed stand regarding pivot)
- Support has gone from wanting to help people to a company that apparently does not

My issue with the 2709W was a physical one. The display wouldn't sit level on any level surface. It didn't wobble, just leaned noticeably to the right. After contacting support, they wanted pictures (that made sense). I set my camera on my desk so I wouldn't influence the view or angle. They said they wouldn't send a replacement or even replace the stand. I sent it back and had to pay 15% restocking, even though this was a defective unit. Besides me losing money, someone else now has my defective unit. That doesn't seem like a good support policy.

Overall, the display was good, but unfortunately support was not. Sadly, Dell has lost a customer.

One more note, Dell has just raised the cost of the display from $849 to $929 but didn't change any of the features of the display. I bought mine on sale at $594 and thought that was a good (but not great) price. I was happy with the sale price I paid. Raising the price of a display with no improvements, no new features, etc., is odd to me.

Most people would hopefully and probably go without having such an issue as I have had. If you do get this display and don't have problems, you will probably enjoy the display. My measure of a company isn't how they act when things go well, it is how they act when things go wrong.

Title: 27-inch WideScreen Black Flat Panel - 1920 x 1200 Date: August 21, 2009
Review:Superb. I use the 30" Ultrasharp at my offices and, of course, it it superb in every way. In a home setting, that size was not practical or needed so I chose this one. WOW! After following the somple instructions to set up in my control panel, This is the very best of both worlds. I now have three and have given one to my sister and my wife for her office. Highly recommended if you can afford it. (wait until a Dell puts it on sale!)

Title: Wait for sale, buy, and be EXTREMELY SATISFIED Date: August 16, 2009
Review:I am in IT and have seen a lot of LCD's. This LCD is especially good for a large number of reasons. The dot pitch is NOT an issue. The images are VERY CRISP! The contrast ratio might seem a little low versus some of the other LCD's available but it is deceptive. You will have to turn it down some. It is excellent. The response time is true as advertised and I see barely any ghosting if any at all. Sometimes when you buy an LCD on the lower size end of the range for resolution, things are way too small and hard to read. The key feature is that this is optimized for 1920x1200 resolution. Your picture will look VERY LARGE. The next step up in size will take you to 2560x1600 which jumps the price up to LCD TV levels which is hard to justify. I think this size and resolution are the sweet spot. I have talked many friends into buying this monitor and they all LOVE IT! Great for movies, gaming, and just daily use. The only thing you should watch is the price. I waited and got mine on sale from Dell for $569.00 shipped. I think the $800.00+ regular price is too much. Be patient but do not hesitate when you see a sale. The sales end quickly when they do happen.

Title: A delight ... and a challenge ... to work with. Date: July 28, 2009
Review:After connecting my 2709W, one of the first applications I opened was my website software, which uses IE for its rendering engine. Yikes! The photos looked horrible with garish oversaturated color. I got out my Optix XR colorimeter and calibrated and profiled the monitor. Oh! Of course, that didn't help much with a program that isn't aware of the monitor profile. Things looked much better in Firefox with enabled color management and in Photoshop. In Photoshop I opened an image I had previously tweaked for printing and viewed it in proof mode with the printer profile. Aha! What I saw on the monitor was an excellent match to the print from my Epson Pro 3800. As long as you are using color managed software, this monitor can produce superbly accurate rendering. But its color is problematic with other software and there does not seem to be a good solution. Using the sRGB preset apparently will cure the oversaturation but it produces inaccurate color that no one seems to like. (I didn't try it for fear of messing up my custom calibration.) Some apps may allow you to adjust color in their interface; I am able to do this for video in WinDVD with acceptable results.

Text is crisp and very comfortable to read, at least from the DVI output of my desktop computer. When I tried connecting my XPS M1330 laptop via VGA it produced noticeably fuzzy text but I have not experimented with anti-aliasing settings. I want to try it with an HDMI cable. Why does Dell include a DisplayPort cable that almost no one will have use for but no HDMI cable? ... oh, I think I know why: they want to plant the thought that we should buy a new high end computer with DisplayPort output. Not today, thank you.

Does the 0.303 mm pixel pitch degrade image quality and produce a visible dot pattern? I think those who say that are grasping at straws for something to criticize. Wearing my strongest pair of reading glasses to focus my eyes less than a foot from the screen, yes I can discern the individual pixels. Who views any monitor like that, never mind one of this size? At any sensible viewing distance images and text appear smooth and the larger text is a benefit.

Aside from superlative IQ (with color management) and easy to read text, the 2709W has a very wide viewing angle. It is well featured including most of the input options you could want. Of course, the sheer size of that screen is pure luxury. At a Days of Deals sale price of CA$599 it was a great value.

You have to be dedicated to appreciate this or any wide gamut monitor. There is no point unless you use color managed applications and calibrate for these. Then in other software there are complications with ugly images, video and other graphics or else you routinely will be making adjustments to try to achieve more acceptable color. If you are not prepared to accept these compromises then you surely will be happier with a standard sRGB gamut monitor which will be easier to live with and easier on the budget too.

Title: Excellent monitor Date: July 15, 2009
Product Uses: Finances, office work at home, 3d modeling

Review:I've waited 6 months to buy 2 of these monitors as I missed the last "10 days of Dell" sale in January.

I bought the monitors for CAD & 3D work for my home office. I was a bit apprehensive as, even on sale for $600 each, they were as twice as expensive as other monitors, save for a pair of Samsung T series I was also eyeing. But I believed in the reviews I read on this site and the general word about the Ultrasharps in other reviews.

I also thought that 27" might be just too big, and maybe I should settle for twin 24". I actually cut & pasted together flattened cardboard boxes to see how much room they would occupy on my desk.

One of the reasons for buying these is that I'm almost 50, and I wear contacts or glasses. With my twin 17" CRTs, I was either squinting or moving right up to the CRT and lifting my glasses as the text was getting pretty hard to make out.

Once I set up these two 27" and fired them up, I was in heaven. The text is excellent & easy to see, and the large size makes 3D work a pleasure, not the tediousness that I experienced with the 2 17" CRTs.

The monitors are set up about 3-4 feet from my eyes, at the end of a huge IKEA desk. There are some comments in other reviews about the large dot pitch, but I do not notice it. The quality of the screens is simply excellent. I do not use the USB and SD card features built into the monitors as my computers are behind me and I run both screens through a VGA KVM and extension cables.

The old 17" Sony Trinitron monitors lasted me 12 years, and I paid about $1000 a piece for each. I waited for the 2709Ws to come on sale as I wanted the best quality available at an affordable price, and I expect them to last for at least as long. The only other monitor I was seriously considering was Samsung 245T or the 275T. The Dell was probably the best combo of sale price and quality.

Well recommended. I think you will enjoy these.

Title: I love this monitor Date: July 3, 2009
Product Uses: pc gaming, spreadsheets, web surfing, external video games (ps3 nes)

Review:Pros:
Its genormous!!

I was originally going to buy the 30" 3008wfp, but I found this gem for less than half the price of it. The 3008wfp reg price is $1699, but was on sale for $1399 but i saw this only slightly smaller going for $649, add a dell coupon from fatwallet and it came to << $600.

I enjoy having more imputs on this monitor so It can double as a spare TV for video gaming if were watching something on the Big TV.

This monitor is very bright and has a sharp picture, so it will not look washed out if you are in a room full of sunlit windows like me, however alone in the dark dark dungeon, it might blind you...unless to turn it down. :)

which brings me to: it many many adjustable settings, for every possible user.

Cons:
1920x1200 is smaller than 2560x1600 in desktop space, and lacks the multiple simultaneous application capabilities of 2x 5:4 1280x1024 dual monitors.

The hinge where the screen attaches to the base is not as sturdy as it could be for such a heavy lcd panel, so make sure your desk is heavy/sturdy enough to be vibration free, or your screen might shake a little.

No noticable delay in gaming.

other thoughts:
My first shipped monitor was defective, but I contacted dell and I had a brand new one on my porch in less than 3 days.

Consider the 5 year dell warranty to protect your purchase for the longest warranty period available on an LCD computer monitor.

Title: A great upgrade from the 2707WFP Date: June 17, 2009
Review:I upgraded to the 2709W from the 2707WFP and I have to say that the upgrade was very worthwhile.

The 2707WFP is in the same room (being used by my roommate now) and I calibrated both with an Eye-One Display 2. The 2709W is easily a superior monitor in terms of its color reproduction and I had a much easier time with the calibration on the 2709W.

Pros

-Excellent color reproduction after calibration.
-Black bezel vs 2707WFP silver bezel so it blends in rather than standing out.
-No noticeable display lag (your mileage may vary).
-Touch sensitive buttons are nice if you get a good monitor. (See Cons below)
-Large number of inputs including two DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connections.
-MUCH better on screen menu than the 2707WFP.
-Panel uniformity is excellent, and I didn't experience the slight yellow tint on which images that I had with the 2707WFP.
-The high pixel pitch, despite what others may say does not create a "screen door" effect. In fact, it makes text easier to read at the native resolution vs other LCDs that I have used. Great for older eyes or for those of us with less than perfect vision.
-PC Games are awesome on this monitor!

Cons

-First one had a scratch on the screen so I swapped it out for a different one. The second one had a dead pixel but DELL was out of stock so I had to wait 5 weeks for my current one, which is perfect.
-Like the 2707WFP, the 2709W needs to be hardware calibrated to really shine. It is too bright from the factory and the colors are off in addition to being oversaturated.
-Touch sensitive buttons are inconsistent. The first two monitors had problems with the buttons where I had to try multiple times for them to register a selection. The third monitor does not have this problem and they work great.
-Bezel is now plastic vs aluminum for the 2707WFP and the base is plastic vs glass for the 2707WFP. From a looks standpoint the 2707WFP is a much more attractive monitor because it lacks all of the plastic that the 2709W has. Due to the price decrease for the 2709W DELL cheapened the materials a bit to ensure a proper profit margin for the 2709W.
-Button noise is horrific, but thankfully you can turn that off in the menu.
-Dynamic Contrast is worthless. In my experience is altered the colors significantly. You are better to leave Dynamic Contrast off.

I recommend this monitor very highly and if you are on the fence don't be afraid to make a purchase!

ProsLarge display, good image quality. Height adjustable stand.
ConsCheapy plastic looking / feeling frame and stand. Image quality and overall construction is way below the amazing 2707WFP.

Review:Well... I originally ordered a 2707WFP, which is an amazing monitor both in picture quality and craftmanship (brushed aluminum frame, glass stand, etc.). Then the order somehow got delayed, after a week or so finally support tells me my order is back on track, but when I received it was the 2709W. And that wasn't a pleasant surprise.
