ProsExcellent print quality; good print speed
ConsPaper jams frequently. This is very annoying and requires you to take out both the paper tray and print cartridge.

Review:I am very disappointed with the quality of the product because of the frequent paper jams. In comparison, I used the same paper with my old printer and did not have any problems with paper jams.

Review:I am very satisfied with my Dell laser printer 1710. It is fast and the the quality is sharp! I looked around for printers and found the the 1710 to be the best bargain for that type of printer. What a deal!

ProsInitial purchase price is low. We purchased the extra paper tray which cost more than the printer, but it works great. The machine produces a nice quality print. We have the 3 year warranty and Dell was great to deal with when it stopped working.
ConsTime to first print is a little slow. Also the proprietary toner cartridge has to be purchased fro Dell which keeps you from getting a competitive price on toner. If one tray runs out of paper it starts pulling from the other tray, but after you refill the paper, you have to turn the machine off then back on to get it to start using the other tray again.

ProsVery easy to setup and operate using USB cable. Standard power cable does not have a wall wart. Excellent print quality and speed.
ConsNone

Review:It would be nice if more colors were offered. The network option should be seriously considered if you need to locate printer some distance from your computer desk as the footprint is not small.

ProsDurability and reliability are two words describing this inexpensive printer. I purchased one for our receptionist and bought the 1710n for our President/CEO. Both printers have preformed flawlessly over the 8 months that we had them. I am preparing to purchase another printer due to the performance i have experienced.
ConsTo get direct network connectivity, you have to spend the extra $100 for the 1710n.

Review:My company also has one of the big brothers to this printer, the 1600n MFP. We've encountered many more problems with the 1600 than the 1710... there hasn't been a peep of a complaint regarding the 1710 or the 1710n. As an IT professional, I can honestly say, you get more Return on Investment with this printer than most I have encountered. - ML

ProsPrint quality is great, love the speed, excellent price.
ConsThe only place you can get cartridges is through Dell. That's a real inconvience if the one you order gets damaged in transit and you don't know that until you open the black plastic bag & it's full of toner. Better keep an extra on hand just in case.

Title: What a value! Date: January 24, 2007
ProsI was a bit wary of buying this after reading some online reviews as to the print quality of the 1710. Those reviews were all dead wrong. The print is crisp and the contrast perfect. The 1710 is easy to set up and get running. It's a lot of printer for the money.
ConsThe edge of the first page frequently snags where the front lid meets the top of the printer. The weight of following pages eventually press the first page flat. Not a big deal.
Also, Dell should include the USB cable.

Prosexcellent, prints fast, everything came ready to just hook it up and start using it, no problems at all.
Consthe
only bad thing but it does not interfere with the operation is that
every time I turn it on it prints a page. that's the only thing., maybe because I have windows 98.

Title: Trusted for MCAT practice exam printing Date: November 30, 2006
ProsThis is my first personal laser printer purchase. I looked around at several brands comparing reviews online. I almost bought the 1710 model on EBay, but Dell gave a great price online with FREE shipping. And buying direct from Dell assures that the product is brand new and legitimate. It also raises our countries' GDP which helps the U.S. economy. I am a pre-med student from Texas. For medical school, I have to ace the MCAT, which means after taking the practice exams online, I need a printer that can print out all my responses and answer solutions NEATLY and FAST. I found it; the Dell Printer 1710.
ConsExcellent Printer. I am one satisfied customer. For $159.00, this is a must have for the home or office. To give you an idea of why there just aren't any cons with this laser printer, I downloaded a pdf lecture for my molecular biology class, and the particular slide I was looking at was a bit blurry (with the right zoom, even). I made a print out of that page, and the image was sharp and neat. I read the numbers and eventually received an A on that exam. Even the printer looks better than my digital file. This was impressive.

Review:The memory and processor on this printer are very accomodating to large print jobs, like 25+ pages of section exams. And no, I do not work for Dell. I just wanted other students who don't have a ton of money to spend, to be able to have someone in their boat, share their experience. And this is it.
