Title: Studio XPS 16 is the best I have owned Date: September 24, 2009
Product Uses: Connecting with Friends, video processing, gps navigation, document creation, media player

Review:I was debating whether or not to buy a PC or a Mac to run Windows 7 (Which I prefer to Mac OSx). I really like the hardware that Mac uses. However, matching up side by side, I was able to get a more powerful laptop than the Mac Book Pro in the XPS 16. This also cost me $1,400 less. When I received the XPS 16 I was so surprised at how thin, sharp, and stylish the XPS 16 was. Then I installed Win 7 and WOW. This computer and OS is the quickest, smoothest, powerful laptop I have ever touched. Every piece of the laptop is high quality. The heat dissipation complaints are over rated. It does get hot when running on the "high performance" battery state and running several programs. However, this PC has plenty of power to run in the "balanced" state and stays comfortable on the lap. I encode Blu-ray DVD's without a hitch, the powerful processor does this task in decent time, best I've seen for a laptop. The screen is just the sickest thing since sliced cheese. All in all, I give this laptop my highest possible rating! (Studio XPS 16, 8Gb DDR3 Ram, 1Gb Dedicated Video, 3.06 Ghz dual core processor, 1920 x 1080 resolution, HDMI, dsplay port, serial ATA,and 3 USB ports to boot)

Title: Highly Satisfied Date: January 29, 2009
ProsThe 1080p LED screen is very vivid and sharp. I watch a lot of DVD's and I'm highly impressed. My wife has an Inspiron 1525 with a standard screen and the LED blows it away. The design/look of the laptop is very modern but as others have said it is a finger-print magnet. The back lit keyboard is nice when you need it. The facial recognition software is pretty cool but it isn't really any easier/quicker then typing in a password. I upgraded to the T9400 6mb Cache 2.53gHz processor and it is blazing fast. I've played Half Life 2 and the graphics card seems to work great at high resolution but I wish there were other optins for high-end cards.

Sound quality is better than average but still pretty much what you would expect from a laptop.

Wireless connectivity and the multimedia buttons work great.
ConsThe blue ray player didn't work with new Blue Ray DVD's initially. Specifically it wouldn't play the Dark Knight. The XPS customer service was phenomenal and they actually overnighted new hardware and sent a local technician to install it the next day. They then followed up twice with phone calls to make sure I was satisfied. (It now works great).

I'm constantly wiping off finger prints.

It would have been nice to have options for other graphics cards.

Review:I've owned a number of Sony, Dell and IBM notebooks and this one is by far my favorite. The LED screen alone is worth the purchase.

Title: Studio XPS 16 Date: February 8, 2010
Product Uses: personal use, design projects and planning, use away from home, picture editing

Review:There is little to fault in this laptop. Sleek and elegant looking, its monitor presents blu-ray so clearly and sharply that you feel the characters are actually present behing the screen. It has all the connectivity I think you could want. It handles picture editing, videos and 3-D design programs without any problems.
Nevertheless, I would have liked it to be a little lighter, and thought the price was a bit high.

Title: Love my XPS Date: February 8, 2010
Product Uses: games, web development, music, Video Editing

Review:I originally bought a Toshiba A500 and wasn't happy with it. I went with the XPS 16 because of the features. I picked the 1920x1080 resolution but have to say I kind of regret this. The default resolution these machines come with are 1600x900 which I would definately recommend. When you get to the 1920x res its very hard to read things. You have to make ALL the text much larger. Other then this I love my little XPS 16. The speakers on this thing are awesome and are just as good as the Toshiba's Harmon/Kardon if not better. The machine is very fast and has handled everything I have thrown at it.

Title: Excellent Powerhouse Date: February 5, 2010
Product Uses: cad design

Review:I purchased the XPS 16 because I need a powerful laptop to run CAD software on the road. This is one of the few machines that offers a dedicated video card. The machine is quick, very stylish, and my colleagues are in envy. The screen is beautiful and the backlighting is consistent, over the entire screen. I got a very fast processor, the max ram, and a powerful video card, for a price I could afford. I was skeptical, but so far I like Windows 7. I do recommend this computer, if you need a desktop like laptop.

Title: Dell Studio XPS M1640 is Good Date: February 5, 2010
Product Uses: computer repair business, graphic design, Gaming, school/college

Review:I recently submitted a review about this product that it was not very good and that I would not recommend it as a computer technician due to a problem that Dell and I have been trying to fix for 2 months on my laptop, but besides this problem in runs great. Its screen has amazing color and video quality and what I like the most is its hardware capabilities such as an HDMI port. I may have fixed the processor issue that I was having for 2 months, but I am still testing wether it has been fixed or not. As of right now, I am not sure wether I would recommend this product or not, but overall, it runs great.

Title: The Stereotypical Superhero Date: February 5, 2010
Product Uses: programming, 3d animation, did play games not anymore, Video Editing, music production, microsoft office

Review:I had great expectations for this laptop, and for the most part it surpassed all of them. It tears through multiple applications, runs windows xp mode elegantly, and runs most of the 3d design software and AutoCAD software that I have installed as well. This laptop is a multimedia beast.

PROS: 1)Beautiful RGBLED screen, get it, it's worth it.
2) Plenty of memory for my space needs, as well as a large hard drive to complement.
3) Wifi works great as well as all other hardware peripherals, especially the touch-sensitive buttons and mousepad special functions.
4)HDMI allows you to connect to pretty much any HDTV.
5)Intel processor tears through anything I throw at it.
6)The webcam works very well and is fun to play with.
7)Lightup keyboard is very handy in dark situations.
8)Dell service is fantastic.

CONS:
1)Biggest and only con: The design, the laptop screen blocks the main exhaust, which not only compromises game-playing(which I don't mind, because it's not rated as a gaming pc, I could play games but not on my beautiful 1080p screen), but I believe compromises the laptop total running life, as most of the heat it produces is trapped inside thus making everything nice and hot, and generally when things always are running too hot it tends to shorten the life of the product. I couldn't believe the flaw when I found it but it was too late to return the laptop.

Overall this was the only flaw I found within the entirety of the whole laptop. As my review title states, this laptop is the stereotypical superhero, it's a total beast, but has one drastic(I believe) flaw. I love Dell, but this pc just burns my bread. Do I recommend it? No, find a laptop that does not have it's lifespan compromised by poor design. However, I'm a faithful Dell customer, and I hope that they can surpass this milestone.

Title: Great Computer Date: February 5, 2010
Product Uses: home base business, games watching dvd's, internet

Review:Pros
I am definitely happy with the Studio XPS16. The backlit keyboard is long over due- love it espicially at my age.

Cons
I am disappointed in the speakers in the laptop, lousey is the nicest word I can think of. The speakers sound like you are in an echo chamber. I will not be listening to music or watching dvd's until i can get a speaker system for the laptop. I think Dell could have done better for the price we have to pay for a Studio XPS 16.
Laptop does generate a lot of heat which I hope does not become an issue with the hard drive.
The only other major issue I have is the color selection; red, white and black just does not get it. Come on guys (or ladies) whatever happened to the color blue?

Title: Studio XPS 16 Date: February 3, 2010
Review:I've had my XPS 16 now for almost a month. So far I love it! There are some defaults but overall it’s great!
Pros:
Love the backlit keyboard and that it dims after not being used for a while
The screen is great with high resolution and amazing graphics
The speakers are great although in a little weird of a location
Cons:
The screen flips back and covers the exhaust port for the cooling FAN
There isn’t an easy off for the touchpad, I use a Bluetooth mouse
The lights on the hinges stay on while charging, not sure if there is a way to shut that off
The bottom gets very hot; I’d recommend purchasing a cooling plate with fans

Overall I am extremely happy with the Studio XPS 16! I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a above average laptop that you can do almost anything on.

Title: Great Laptop, but it has its limitations Date: February 1, 2010
Product Uses: school (it major), Gaming, multimedia, Travel

Review:Specs
i7 cpu Q820, ati radeon HD 4670, 4gb ram, RGBLED screen, 500gb HD

Pros
Everything from the looks of the laptop to the feel of it is great. The back-lit keyboard is possibly my favorite keyboard to date (i have owned/used more than 10 laptops, dell and others) Mouse pad/mouse buttons are responsive and easy to get use to. Ports, unless you have severely dated peripherals it can be plugged into this laptop. Media buttons are all touch sensitive which is weird at first but they grow on you. The speakers are some of the loudest and cleanest i have heard on a laptop. Lastly the screen (RGBLED) is beyond amazing, only your eyes could understand how crisp and vibrant it is.

Cons
If you are buying this laptop for gaming, disregard the fact that it has an i7 processor and/or an ati radeon HD 4670 card because they are severely throttled during heavy loads. The parts are more than capable of running games such as Far Cry 2 (max settings) at 30+ fps but dell choose to limit the laptop by suppling it with an underpowered 90w adapter. Users have done extensive testing with higher powered adapters, and altered software (not recommended) to receive this laptops true potential and it is nothing but incredible.

Title: Awesome high-end laptop Date: February 1, 2010
Review:I received my Dell XPS 16 a couple weeks ago and have been very impressed with the quality of the laptop. Given the time my family spends with this machine, I'm glad that we spent the extra money to get the XPS line. The XPS 16 has lots of nice details like touch capacitive media controls, backlit keyboard, and automatic external monitor detection.

The only thing I have to complain about is the feel of the leather accent that I bought for an additional $40. It feels a bit cheap and thin. I do like the white lid, though, and am glad that I chose that option.

Title: Very fast, sturdy laptop. Date: January 31, 2010
Product Uses: work, home, Travel

Review:I am on my fourth laptop, but my first Dell. Wow, it is fast, well-built, and well-organized. I love the easy-to-find volume controls above the function keys and the backlit keyboard. What a difference those little details make. Another favorite is the touchpad's feature where you can spread two fingers on it and make the page larger--makes some of those internet pages so much easier to read! I didn't think I would care that I could watch a movie and it would be so spectacular but I love it! Not only is it visually excellent, but the sound from these speakers is surprisingly rich. The power brick has a wide elastic band with holes like a belt to make it quick and easy to pack and unpack. All the little details that other brands I've owned don't have make a big difference. I wish Dell gave color choices without extra cost. I settled for black but would have loved more choices.

It's a little heavy, but the performance makes up for it.Got this rig with the P8700 CPU and the HD 4670 vid card. And 500 gigs to store my vid.
Temp has not been a problem at all..I thought it was going to be alot worse.Love the lighted keyboard, and the audio is awsome for a laptop!

Review:I was using an ancient ('99) Dell Latitude. I ordered the XPS16 when I found that I would be travelling overseas for an extended period. The Studio XPS is the right mix of productivity, size, and entertainment for me to use while on travel. The larger battery is key for watching movies or working on those long trans-continental flights. Well worth the money spent! I would recommend XPS 16 to anyone.

Title: Working Machine Date: January 27, 2010
Review:I use my laptop for writing, teaching, internet, and the occasional game. So far, I love the backlit keyboard, the feel and aesthetic of the machine, and the screen size/resolution.

I don't like the short power cord, and it could SERIOUSLY do with another USB port or two. I am not yet sold on the slot-load disk drive--it's new, and it just doesn't work like I expect (seems a little slow and choppy).

All else told? I like the machine, and plan to use it pretty intensively. We shall have to wait and see how it holds up over time.
