ProsWe all need a laptop for business or personal that is portable and this is the machine for it. 1. Easy use, now that Ubuntu is loaded (thank you!). Don't worry it's simple. 2. The screen size if perfect for document reading 3. Typing is the same as the major keyboards 4. The combination OS and Motherboard make the system fly. 5. The power system gives you 6 hours of power what other system does that ConsNo CD drive (but that is easy to add) pretty much it when you use Ubuntu or even XP
Review:I have seen it tested with Ubuntu at a conference and it's results in boot time, process time, and function are all above anything else out there. Dell if you are listening this could quite possibly be the answer to the Mac in functionality and design so use "Mac Killer" for all of us not graphic design people and we will buy it.
Also don't worry about software on Ubuntu all your files (not games though) will load easily and you can save to anything. If you want a game machine get XP, if you want a computer for work, email, and surfing get Ubuntu

Review:I got this laptop as a back to school gift. It is very light and very convenient to carry around, and doesn't need alot of technical expertise to use. The only thing that is REALLY BAD is the sound and microphone quality (i.e. songs play very low and webcam voice is not clear).

Review:The best part of this is the bluetooth and size. My and my wife both use this laptop. The ability to use a bluetooth mouse and headset is perfect. The size is small so you don't get the ability to expand your ram, but for using it almost exclusively as a web book makes this very appealing.

Review:I am very happy with the computer. It looks great, came with XP, and could fit in my wife's purse. I got it in pink which she is a sucker for. I got the six cell battery which is good for almost five hours with the screen brightness turned down a bit. I ripped out the Mcafee and put Norton Internet Security 2009 in, turned off all unneeded processes and the system boots up fast and works like a charm. I wish the processor was a little faster but I got the 1.6 GHZ Atom and it seems to do the job. I wish it had a better camera and better sound but you can't have it all.

Review:I absolutely love this mini! I researched so much before purchasing it. I have gotten so used to it and it only took a couple days to get used to the keyboard. It's a tiny bit smaller than a regular one. I use it all the time for my internet classes and sometimes when I go to class I take it and have a cover for it and put it right inside my binder and take it right along. I may have wished I would have gotten the 10 inch. but this is more capable of more things. I got mine refurbished and saved a couple hundred dollars. No problems at all. Definitely recommended for students! Or anyone who need extreme portability! LOVE IT! BUY FROM THEIR OUTLET AND SAVE SOME MONEY!

Review:This is a nice netbook, I have tried Ubuntu, Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 7 seem to work the best with this dell Pros: Very light weight and portable, runs very cool and silent, screen is clear and crisp, text is easy to read, 6 cell battery last about 5-6 hours Cons: very limited upgradeability, video card/processor is fairly weak, 1gb memory not upgradeable, hard drive uses PATA ziff, which is hard to upgrade, youtube video playback is fair to good, playing HD content is very choppy, the speaker is very weak, audio driver is weak.
notes: I am using a supertalent 4gb pico usb drive that is running in ready boost mode, it seems to give it a little boost, I am also using a x-mini external speaker.
I think if this netbook allowed memory expansion and support for SATA drives, not to mention a graphics card that supports youtube HD playback it would be perfect.
I also own a Inspiron 1420 and it addresses all of the Dell mini 12's weaknesses. I highly recommend the 1420
also dell should go back to the silver colored keyboard, its much easier to see the keys in low light than the black keys

Review:If you are looking for a computer for gaming, video editing or any other memory intensive application, this is not the machine for you.
But. If you want a genuinely compact lightweight computer to take on the road, check your email, write or edit documents, show off your photographs, check in with Facebook or other social networking sites, take care of your banking or any other regular task, this computer is perfect.
This computer revives the original concept of laptop. Carrying it and its DVD drive, my portable HD, earphones, mouse, and DC charger, it's still a featherweight. My tired old back says "thank you" every time I take it on a trip.
Small, light, with excellent video quality, it does what it's supposed to do wonderfully well. It's a great netbook and as long as you understand what it's designed to do and use it for its intended purpose, you can't go wrong.
One word of advice: get the biggest battery you can afford!

Review:Got my Mini 12 on last Thursday, 9th Jul. Boot the system, got this error msg. PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Operating System not found The Dell technical support say is hardisk problem, promise by Dell they will send the hardisk on Saturday but logistic did not fullfil it. Service engineer came and check all the connection, still the same error. Monday the replacement hardisk arrived with vga out pcb connector which is not related to the issue but I don't know why they send it to me. Replace the new hardisk, still the same problem and sometimes the bios is hang and sometimes no display on screen. Use recovery disc to try recover but it can't detect hardisk. Very very frustrated...I don't have even one chance to use the new laptop, end up I need to wait for at least 2 weeks for the replacement laptop which I do not know whether it comes functional or still got other issue. This is the first time I purchase Dell product, it give me a very very bad impression. I'm upset.

Review:The Mini 12 is a great complement to my Dell Studio desktop. I use it constantly for writing, email, internet, and finances when I'm on the road. It is lightweight and easy to pick up, especially with the 6-cell battery - which I highly recommend. After some tweaks, it is plenty fast enough, but it is not a powerhorse. I have never run out of battery life yet in real life tests. The display is awesome. I bought my wife a competitor's product two months before buying this for myself, and I wish I would have gotten her the Dell Mini 12 instead. I use Dropbox to synchronize files between the desktop and the Mini, so I always am working with the same files on both machines, including Outlook.

My Ubuntu Desktop

Review:Perfect little portable to supplement my 17" Apple PowerBook. Additionally, you can buy it with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed, as I am not a fan of Windows.
This is a perfect machine for email, web, and other light computing tasks. It is not meant for video or heavy photo editing. It has just the right mix of price and basics. At 3 pounds, I do not even feel it while traveling.
I run Ubuntu's native desktop versus the Dell Ubuntu Desktop version, and you can easily switch between the two. The Dell version is very nice, but the native desktop provides a bit snappier performance.
Lots of great free software too.

Review:I thought a 12 inch would be to small. My granddaughter just graduate from 8th grade and she love it. It is easy to handle,beautiful colors and it very personal to her. She carries the laptop and cell phone from room to room. I want to see her once I purchase a router to be connected to the internet (will I be able to handle it) she may sleep with it under her pillow.
Cons I am waiting to purchase one for myself, of course in a different color.
