Title: What a sturdy Laptop! Date: June 11, 2009
Product Uses: Connecting with Friends, Video Editing, Travel, Gaming, Music & Movies, School, Finances, Presentation

Review:"Less than six months into the cumulative ownership period, my laptop underwent a significant fall damage. One of my friends who borrowed the laptop for presentation, accidentally dropped the Vostro 1310 from the table. Surprising the laptop had minimal damage. Except for the slightly scratched LCD Lid cover, the rest of the laptop was fine. Since the computer was under complete cover which included accidental damage, I called up the Dell customer service for the replacement of the LCD Lid Cover since it was heart breaking to look at my new laptop with bumped up parts. The Dell customer service attended the call and replaced the damaged part in three working days. A laptop that can withstand significant fall damage, backed by a really considerate customer service is what exactly I was looking for in a hassle free ownership, and Dell lived upto its reputation of making great quality laptops as well good customer service.

Config: Intel C2D T9300,Nvidia 8400M GS, 4Gb RAM, 160 Gb Free fall protection HDD.

Review:Dell vostro 1310 is a perfect choice both for bussiness as well as students.the widwscreen 13inch display never makes us feel too small.
The best part is its weight which is same as if some little heavy nokia mobile phone.Cooling mechanism is absolutely fantastic which makes it best for placing on lap.Its amazing to note that after a long continuous use base remains cooler than the top.Is wide vibrant keyboard is perfect for easy typing. The multimedia touch keys provided are quiet comatible with all applications.
The intel T5870 processor proves too be a true performer with great speed. The integrated intel graphics are quiet satisfactory and can play all heavy games.
The slot in DVD Writer drive it smooth and attractive. The express card slot and card reader slot adds to functionality. There are 4 USB ports that provide good data transfer speed.
The buitin wifi and blutooth are quiet faster.
Touch Pad is once again a very notable feature , its very intractive and smooth to navigate unlike other Dell notebooks.
Well the sound output off laptop is far too low that makes it suitable only for personel use. However with headphones the sound is crystal-clear. Another drawback lies at the back glossy surface that is very prone to touches and sctraches. However this drawbacks never restrict the allover performance and beauti.
The look is quiet professional with squared edges. Hower the laptop ids perfectly jerk free with it metal coating around each element that makes it suitable for student environmet.
At last i say if you would like to have a blend of performance and durability , GO FOR IT.

Review:It is good at Performance, Size, Design (Simple & Elegant). Keyboard is much better than the original version, good battery life (with 6 cell, it goes for about 2 hrs on full performance mode). Screen resolution and clarity are the best features that i personally liked. This is my first migration ever after 4 years from a Lenovo celeron laptop and i can say this is worth my hard earned money.

Title: Great little laptop Date: April 16, 2009
Product Uses: Travel, Presentation, business

Review:Very good machine, does the job well. Easy to lug around, throw into the car every day and throw into the overhead luggage on the plane, good size to use when the passenger in front lays his seat back. The SD slot is a bit of a hit or miss. Mine came with a bluetooth mouse which is great. Battery life could be better but hey it's a small light machine. Keyboard is easy to use. All in all, I have no regrets and think its a great little machine. My first Dell and I've bought a 1510 for my assistant recently. About to buy another for a club, so you can figure out my recommendation. My brother just bought two and my son bought one as well... wish we had shares in Dell!

Title: Nice Compact notebook Date: March 2, 2009
ProsLove the size. Construction much better than expected. Price with all the upgrades included was unmatchable. Love the screen even with some glare.
ConsWaiting for a custom computer. Lit keyboard would be nice or more reflective keyboard grapics.

Review:I am glad I added camera and fingerprint reader. individual fingers can be used to open up programs(internet browser, email, etc.) Keyboard has some differences but easy to adjust. Fan is quiet as well as hard drive and dvd. wireless upgraded to intel and has great range.

Title: Best Laptop Purchase Date: February 28, 2009
ProsI customized four different laptops with the same specs as this one and the price was always about 300 dollars more than what I paid for this one. Not to mention I have a larger battery for free!
ConsThe speaker!!! This is the only complaint but had I known the laptop only had one speaker I would have decided on a different laptop because I have over 1000 songs on my computer to listen to when I am typing papers.

Review:When I unpacked the laptop I wondered why it came with a cloth, but once taking the laptop out of the box I realized why. To take care of the top getting stuff all over it I simply ordered a skin for the laptop; problem solved!

Title: Not bad for the price Date: February 25, 2009
ProsNice features for the price. Lots of RAM, HD space, cpu for the money.
Plenty of USB ports, card reader, wireless switch, light weight, decent screen.
ConsHate the high-gloss fingerprint trap. Hate the speaker. Plastic feels cheap. Slot load DVD is very clunky.

Review:Not a bad laptop for the price. I replaced an Inspiron 2200 and the 1310 feels much lighter. I like the old matt black better that the new gloss, and I dislike widescreen LCD's, but thats pretty much all you can get these days. Overall its a decent laptop.

Prosit is available in XP Pro. nice looking when closed.
Conscheap looking once you opened the laptop, awkward positioning of the keys in the keyboard, noisy keys, small touchpad, no mute button, to sharp corners.

ProsLightweight.
Affordable.
ConsGlossy cover that attracts dusts, finger-print and dirt. Speaker, i really thought they didn't include any speaker because i can't hear anything. Driver upgrade helped a bit.

Review:Try to get the anti-glare screen. I'm still having a hard time tilting the screen to reduce the glare. I hope they explain screen types more on the description section.

Title: Black+Sleek=Awesome Dell! Date: February 11, 2009
ProsA lot doesnt need to be said about DELL and quality! But this black baby is top notch! Very comfortable keyword, power under its boot and very light and one thing i would like to add - WITHOUT THE HEAT! I have been using a few laptops for sometime now (from the companies with names starting with H and other with C :-p ), they all looked awesome, performed ok .. but after a session of work, my jeans usually needed an AIR CONDITIONER !

And oh before i forget : SERIOUS BATTERY LIFE!
WHICH REALLY DOES WORK!

1310 is small sleek and has all the features one usually need. Teamed up with DELLS awesome service, this should be in your WHAT TO BUY list!
ConsWell CONS....uhmm hard to find... i would say the USB PORT on the right. Its a bit difficult to plug in at times and also the charger port. Indians seems to be obssesed with CHARGES on their left and thats quite got even into be !
The piano finish is a finger print magnet and yeah the scratches !

And yeah the biggest CON:
THE SPEAKERS, WARNING: THIS LAPTOP IS NOT FOR THE MUSICHOLICS! But hey dell didnt make it that way, this is a business laptop !

I just hope the prices come down for this a bit so that everyone can afford this baby!

Title: Great Buy! Date: February 10, 2009
ProsI purchased this laptop over Christmas break on a special one day deal:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5870, 2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2M L2 Cache, 3G Ram, 250G HD, and Webcam for under $700 after tax was a great deal compared to other offers available from either Dell or from other companies.

- Great processing power and storage capacity for the price - better than I was able to find anywhere else
- The slot loading disc drive is pretty sweet
- Didn't have to uninstall any bloatware
- Great battery life ~5.5 hrs so long as I'm not doing anything that intensive
- Webcam works great
- Keyboard has a good feel
- Headphone jack on the side instead of the front
ConsThe single speaker delivers a grating, tinny sound though this is not much a of a deal for me since I use external speakers on my desk and headphones elsewhere.

The touch sensitive media controls could be far more useful then they are. Changing the volume requires you to tap repeatedly instead of allowing you to simply hold your finger down. Mute should be included in these controls instead of requiring Fn + Del.

Speaking of function keys, the Home, End, Pg Up, and Pg Down functions lack dedicated keys and are accessed instead through Fn + arrow keys. I have grown accustomed to this but it took a while to get used to.

The touchpad surface could be a bit larger and more responsive.

I would have preferred more of the ports and the power jack to have been located on the back of the laptop instead of on the sides.

Lid picks up smudges and scratches easily and is difficult to open. An indent for fingers and/or a sliding catch of some sort would have been a nice feature.

Had to install new graphics drivers to make several games run properly.

Slot loading drive is really loud when loading or ejecting discs.

Review:Replaced a four year old Toshiba Satellite and has been working great for me. I would not have made any other purchase.
The laptop shipped and arrived a week early from the date I was given after I submitted my order. Thanks Dell!

Title: Good Machine, Good Price Date: January 15, 2009
Pros* I upsized from 12" to 13", and this has been a good choice.
* Good size, good weight. Very good screen (don't choose the TrueLife option if its available - that makes the screen shiny and hard to see)
* Access to fan very good (so you can vaccuum that dust out) - this is an important aspect because I had an XPS before and that needed you to pull the whole machine apart to remove the fan.
* Has run smoothly and relatively well.
* Choose the XP option if possible - it is much more stable than Vista. My XP runs very well.
Cons* The absence of a mute button annoys me.
* Could use with another USB port - theres 3 on the right, but only 1 on the left.
* Runs too hot - about 55 to 60 degrees. I had to get a cooler fan that I take with me now. Then again, most laptops run hot.
* GeForce video card doesn't support widescreen (or I cant figure it out) 1440x900
* Short battery life, though not a huge problem for me.
* SD card slot doesn't work, period...

Title: Good general laptop. Good Value Date: January 11, 2009
ProsSmall and portable but "right sized" for general use with few comprimises.

Runs Office, browsers, security software etc well under XP Home OS.

Highly configurable, particularly if you call an agent and ask for options beyond those on the site (especially the promotional configurations which change monthly).

Great battery life with the optional 9 cell unit (it does protrude about 1 inch out the back but you get used to it).

Glossy screen is great for indoor use (NOT outdoors in the sun, however).

Lots of ports, big HD (160 Gig). 2 Gig RAM and 2 Gig Core 2 Duo provide decent performance.

Slot drive for DVD media. No more trays popping out at the wrong time.

Reasonably quiet and cool running.

Strong Wifi with basic card and nice Dell Wifi software.

Basic graphics are fine for general use and DVD viewing.
ConsVery few, but....

THE worst speaker ever installed on any computer, anywhere. Inexcusable design flaw (although with earphones the sound is fine). This is a minor issue for me but would be a dealbreaker for some. Contrary to some reports, this speaker will NOT fill a small board room with sound. You WILL need amplified speakers, which negates the portability of this laptop if sound is important to you.

Get a $5 neoprene sleave from eBay to protect the glossy finish on the lid and provide a bit of shock protection. The casing appears to be all plastic, fine if handled normally, but I would not want to drop it.

Review:For me this hits the "sweet spot in laptops". This is my 4th sub-14 inch laptops over the years. Not much more costly than a decently equipped netbook, it provide fuller functionality. If you include the cost of external optical drives and other things required with a netbook, the Vostro 1310 might be even less expensive.

Way less costly than a lot of competing 13 inch laptops, if you buy at the right time. I got mine configured with XP Home in May 2008 (I think it was the product launch promotion) and avoided the $100 "up-sell" to downgrade the OS from Vista demanded a month later(thanks MicroSoft). I also got the 9 cell battery upgrade for about $20 ( a great value)and then called the sales rep (he was very helpful and seemed to be authorized to act) to negotiate an upgrade from the basic Celeron processor to a 2 Gig Core 2 Duo for $100 (not offerred directly on the Web promotion site at that time. Total pre-tax price was <$600 Canadian at that time. At this price point this unit really can't be beat. Show wisely and do some research.

ProsPlenty of RAM. WinXP Pro. Runs good. I like that it is small enough that I don't have to have another bag when I go out to perform support functions. I realize it is a good deal because those type machines are hard to find at a reasonable price.
ConsNo Web CAM. No Modem. I really needed a modem because I still have home users who have dial-up. I will have to purchase a usb modem to fill support needs in a dial-up situation. It would have been nice to have a 250 gig hard drive. Over all I am satisfied though.

Title: great value mobile computing Date: January 4, 2009
ProsI'm actually considering to pruchase a Vostro notebook this year. I have been reviewing the notebook in many sites about the capability. I'm actually working in an executive education centre, where using mobile computer is essential on a day to day basis is extreme. One of my workmate is actually using the Vostro 1000, the 15 inch screen. Coming to almost a year and uses daily through the day, ad yet the machine is strong and reliable. That is what attracted me the most a machine would be used for the whole day without facing any problems.
Consnone so far found in the Vostro being used by my workmate.

Review:a few thing would like to suggest; 1: to have a personal colour especially the lead, even though built for business but still many would be looking at styling through colour. All black does not impresses that much though for some. 2: to have a hard disk protection as some manufacturers have, as this machine built for business and extensive mobile. Business consumer surely would be looking for this feature in giving their data a protection.

Review:"Dell Vostro is a perfect 13.3 inch Light weight laptop for anyone who needs a laptop with portability, good performance all in a great price. I knew the laptop did have a weak speaker, but since I never had any good opinion about any laptop speakers - it was something I could care less about. If you are like me, who always carry around a pair of headphones, this wont be a problem. Other than the speakers, I really don't have any major complaints, but if you are seriously considering buying this laptop - do go through my list of cons. It may ease your worries, as most are non issues (just nitpicking in other words).
