Review:I was looking for a new computer for months. I looked at every brand, ever product, and considered all of my options. I even bought and returned 2 other systems. In the end I picked the XPS M1330. I really wondered if I made the right choice right up until it came to my door. As soon as I opened it, I fell in love.

The XPS M1330 is the best system that I have ever owned and I am glad that I went with yet another Dell Product. There are only two USB Ports but so what! Get yourself a $20 USB Hub or use Bluetooth accessories. This system comes loaded with everything you will ever need: Internal DVD burner, dedicated graphics, high performance CPU, Large and fast hard drive and great accessories in a package that is portable and looks great. You get all of this at a price below the competition.

Dell has made a move in the right direction. My only wish is that mine came with the LED Screen. This would decrease the size and weight while increasing brightness and extending battery life. The size of the screen and the text is a perfect balance. I would never choose another 15” notebook again.

If you seriously want a high performance, light, portable, and sexy machine, look no further than the XPS M1330.

P.S. this machine will fit inside of a standard magazine envelope. It also demands instant respect at either the office or in school. Balance of professionalism and style.

Title: M1330 With Solid State HDD Date: November 5, 2007
Pros- No moving parts
- Very fast machine (T7500/64GB Solid State Hard drive/4GB RAM/8400GS video card)
- Very QUIET machine, system fan does a great job and whisper quiet
- Nice and light machine, have travelled with it on multiple occasions
- Carrying case provided looks professional and easy to carry
- Convenient remote control for computer. (came in very handy for presentation sake)
- Good quality recording TV with the TV Tuner option I picked up
- 9-cell battery provides me with around 5.5hrs of battery time, or 2.5hrs if really working it hard.
- Good but not great webcam
- Very good microphone array
- Exceptionally great finger reader
ConsBeing you get such a small notebook, there will be some sacrifices but they are easy to overcome:
- Only 2 USB ports. (Just buy a cheap $20 USB hub to get a fast extra 4-8 USB ports)
- Carry case that comes with computer does not have a single extra component for even the battery charger. (buy a better one.)
- Keyboard tends to need you to press fairly hard on keys to register a single stroke (could just be the one I have, will be getting it replaced)
- Can only order this computer in Black and Red
- Support phone line for tech support is not made clear for the XPS line, which it should have a sticker if your paying this much money to begin with.

Review:Overall a fantastic computer, I only rated the features 4/5 because USB ports are very important and this machine only has 2. Buy this computer with solid state hard drive, worth every penny.

Title: A wolf in sheep's clothing Date: September 19, 2007
ProsNot only is this laptop very attractive and extremely light, it packs a really heavy punch. If Tim Allen had to build a laptop, he'd build this one. It loads pretty much all of my applications in a snap (I use MS Office on a daily basis, and have at least a dozen windows open), and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. I also do some light coding in the background while I have all my windows open. Being portable means that I'm able to take this on the road with me and hookup to the free wifi spots and do my work on the fly. This is truly what I have been looking for, and I've been looking for the last 3 years...
ConsNone at this time.

Review:I was debating upon this one or the MacBooks, because I really needed a portable laptop, with a slot drive. I'm a huge fan of these types of drives, and I chose the XPS over MacBook because of the weight. I know there's only one small pound of difference, but it was a factor for me.

Title: Best laptop i've ever owned Date: March 2, 2008
ProsSuper-light (under 4lbs. with the 4cell battery)
Does not get hot on the lap, even after 3hours of continuous use
Full-sized keyboard for such a small laptop.
Screen quality is excellent (LCD)
Battery life is superb, both 4-cell and 9-cell
ConsSpeakers could be louder
The back end is fat compared to the front
Only 2 usb ports
Vista -- i guess i could always change that

Review:This laptop is perfect for school as I am working on my Master's degree. I cannot even tell I have a laptop in my book bag as I walk around campus. With the long lasting batteries, i have not had to look for an outlet all semester on campus. I have two 3 hour classes back to back and battery lasts through both of them.
I first had a Dell Inspiron 1150 and then the Inspiron E1405. This one is the best so far.

Title: Much better than I had hoped for!!! Date: April 21, 2009
Pros+ Really fast (I have 3GB memory).
+ Great value for the price.
+ Not only are the aesthetics pleasing, Dell has designed a very reliable and robust laptop.
+ No significant preloading of bloatware.
+ USB ports on both sides makes it very convenient.
Cons- Speaker quality isn't that great, but I'm not going to be hosting any concerts...
- Two USB ports is pushing it, but actually I'm quite impressed by how much functional stuff they have crammed into the M1330.

Review:Overall, I'm very, very pleased with this purchase. I was on the fence initially, wondering if the price was worth it, but the performance of the M1330 has left me convinced that it's an incredible deal!

ProsI recently received my new Ruby Red XPS1330 laptop. I am in love! Lightweight, small size with full size keyboard. Would highly recommend to anyone.
ConsWhen customizing, Dell did not give me the choice of operating systems with the XPS where other Dell models did. Microsoft Vista came preloaded which I HATE! Would loved to been able to make a choice.

Review:Specifications:

Processor T9500 2.60 MHz @ 800 MHz
8 GB of RAM at 667 MHz
Ultra Performance 256 GB SSD
128 MB graphic card
Thin LCD screen
6 Cell Battery
NIS 2008 for 3 years

Pros:

1. Light, no sound of HDD at all, except DVD drive when starting. Fastest laptop I’ve ever worked on.

2. Dazzling 220/220 MB per sec Read/Write Samsung SSD. Moves 5GB of data in seconds. Don’t buy any HDD or Dell mobility drive or even the 128 GB Ultra performance SSD (speed 90/70 MB per sec). Get the Samsung Ultra performance 256 GB SSD only. This is the key to this laptop.

3. Extremely fast processor, all MS office applications pop up the moment clicked on.

4. 8GB of RAM makes any application pop up instantly combined with such extreme processor. Even Norton Internet Security (NIS) pops up instantly when clicked on.

5. HDMI socket and a Wi-Fi detector

6. MM slot that read all type of cards, even a CF (an additional CF / 54 express card required)

7. At least 3 hours of continuous operation with 80% screen brightness settings. (because SSD consumes away much less of power than regular HDD)

Cons:

1. Screen so thin, when closing the lid and carrying the laptop with one palm, it will touch the keyboard and scratches the screen. I have purchased 3 XPS M1330 laptops all had the same problem. I even called Dell to replace one screen, they replaced the keyboard too and thought that might have been the problem, but no luck, still same problem. Fault in design. With my last one, I used 6 bumpers to keep away the screen from the keyboard. It’s better but you have to be careful to carry the laptop from the touchpad end when it is closed rather than the power button end.

2. For months, Dell was selling 6 and 8 GB of RAMs, claiming that they were at a bus speed of 800 MHz, after returning my laptop and sending screenshots of my bios screen which clearly states that I am only getting 667 MHz speed and not 800 MHz, they have finally agreed to fully refund my laptop and in few days later they have removed the 800 MHz option from the RAM ordering option. The Bios does not support the 800 MHz speed.

3. Multimedia buttons are so close together and not distributed along the top of the keyboard area making them crowded and difficult to press the right button.

4. No Blue-Ray capable drive

5. Loud keyboard and DVD drive

6. LEDs are extremely silly. They are all blue and small to see, so you can’t tell which is which and they are even located in a silly place that the user can’t see. Even the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, number locks and Cap Locks are all blue and so small and crowded.

7. 1394a Firewire is revision (a) only.

8. Poor quality of the built in video camera with the thin LCD screen

9. No S-Video socket

10. No scribe capability for the DVD drive.

Other accessories:

If you want to buy an amazing sleeve for this laptop, buy the Incase13” for MacBook. It’s perfect and fits so nice with no waste from the sides.

Title: XPS M1330 Date: June 27, 2008
ProsWhere to begin?...
Probably the best feature is the screen - if you buy this you have to get the WLED display. Its so worth the money. I have used it outside in direct bright sunlight in the middle of the day and still been able to work away quite happily. The dual headphone outputs are another strong contendor. I use the laptop at gigs to function as a sampler and the 2 headphone outs give me direct monitoring from the laptop when on stage, in addition to whatever the sound tech guys provide - awesome!! On a similar tip, the way the 2 headphone and Mic input can switch to give 6 channel sound output is pretty cool.
The fingerprint scanner is a nice addition and works surprisingly well. As does the remote control, tho I use this a lot less than I expected to.
Being small and light enought that I am able to walk round holding the laptop on one arm whilst typing with the other hand comes in surprisingly useful!!
And the ooh's and aah's when people first see it don't get boring either - its a pretty sexy looking bit of kit
ConsI don't really like giving all 5 stars, even to a machine this good, cos there's always room for improvement. But with the 1330, I am struggling a little to pick holes in it.
I guess the biggest problem I have so far is the choice of video outputs - call me old school but my TV only has s-video and composite inputs (no HDMI) and my monitor uses DVI. This means that I have no easy way of plugging the laptop into the TV and to plug it into my larger monitor, I have to use a D-SUB adapter which kinda defies the point of having DVI.
I also wish I could have specced the machine without a webcam - I'm sure I'm not alone in my irrational dislike for them. I had to settle for disabling the drivers instead!
There is a slight, but noticable, bulge in the keyboard as tho things have had to be squeezed a little too much underneath to fit them in. This doesn't affect typing at all tho, its just a slight cosmetic issue that I only notice on occasion. Also the nice shiny metal handrest gets grubby pretty quickly. Like I say, we're kind of scraping the barrel a bit here!!

Review:I work in IT and consider myself a pretty demanding user. I have no patience with slow computers and am constantly push the limits of my machines. So I guess the real reason I'm so happy with my XPS1330 is
because it has consistently performed well and been relatively trouble free. I have had it 3 months now and only had 2 or minor crashes in that time. Other people have mentioned problems with hibernation but I haven't experienced this at all. In fact I rarely shutdown the laptop properly at all (bad me, but good laptop!), something I have never been able to get away with on previous laptops. This is easily the best computer I have ever owned, desktop or laptop, in terms of meeting my day-to-day needs. Despite having pretty well specced desktops at both the office and home I now rarely use either of them. In fact my office computer has been reduced to checking email and thats about it.
No doubt some people will be concerned about the screen size - 13.3" seems pretty small. In fact I would have bought the 1530 had it been available with the WLED display. In hindsight however, I would now go for the 13.3" every time without hesitation. The machine is lighter and more manageable because of it. Also, as it is such a great screen, it is a pleasure to work on, despite its relatively small size. I write software and when I bought this, I was not expecting to be coding on it all. Now I do all my development work on it. Even dull coding tools somehow look slicker and easier on the eye!
To summarise - best machine I ever bought. I see no reason so far why I won't be happy with it for at least the next couple of years and when eventually it dies or can't keep up - cos we all get old some day ;-) - then my first port of call will be the Dell website to buy the replacement model.

ProsSleek Design, light weight
Excellent Screen quality, mine is LED. I kinda like Vista, Quick setup
Midnight Blue, recommended, prefessional and casual look.
Soft Keyboard
0.3mp webcam is excellent
ConsNoisy DVD rom: could be ignored for sleek style.
Left hand Palm rest heats up alot, coz of hard drive.
Since the FAN outlet is at the base you cant keep it on lap.
Only 2 USB ports.
Less battery life, even with 6 cell.
Remote control on right hand side come out by 2-3 mm.
Left hing has bigger gap then right one.
Wireless button too loose.
No hard drive partition, it comes with recovery d: with 10gb and rest is c:
Webcam pannel is around 1" which makes the screen look smaller.
Microsoft Media Direct Hangs occassionally.

Review:my dvd rom stopped working after 2 days. it use to throw the CD out. Called Support and technician got it replaced. he had to open the whole laptop to replace the dvd rom. he said the design is such that you have open the laptopo completely even to change a hard drive or dvd rom or anything which cud easily come out in any other laptop design. Vastro designs are more simple to handle.
When you get your XPS make sure
1. there are no dead pixel on screen
2. keyboard strokes are soft and dont require to type same button twice
3. DVD rom works properly
4. Hard drives make no noice
5. you cant help the partitioning problem
6. make sure your ram looks 3gb or 4gb and not 3.25gb when u go for 4gb ram.
7. also 20gb would be lost in hard disk management so if u got 320hdd u would end up getting just 295 or less.
8. check the sound quality and make sure speakers doesnot burst noice, mine was.
over all, I had problems but i like the power and performance of the machine.

Title: Fantastic Computer!!! Date: December 3, 2007
ProsBeautiful, light, fast, did I mention beautiful and fast?
ConsSmall touch pad, and that is it.

Review:I had a difficult time making a decision on whether or not to purchase this computer. I already had a Dell XPS M1710 and a Dell XPS M1210. The 17 inch Dell was a fantastic computer but it was really too big to carry around and the 12 inch computer was too small to be used all of the time. I was looking for a computer that would be big and quick enough to be used all of the time, yet portable enough to carry around at work, as I am a high school teacher and have to move from room to room during the day. I read some positive reviews about the computer on Dell's website and decided to give it a try, especially knowing that Dell has a 21 day return period. I figured that if I did not like it I would simply return it, but if I did like it I would go ahead and sell the 12 and 17 inch Dell computers. Well, I loved it. I believe in going all out with my computers as I spend a lot of time on them at work and for college classes that I am taking in a Doctorate program in Education. I got this with the fastest processor that they offer, the 2.2 GHz, then I maxed out the memory at 4GB, I also got the thin and light screen and the 9 cell battery. This computer is just unreal! I love everything about it, the way it looks, and the way it performs. It is super fast, and very light. Sometimes I even forget that I have it in my carrying bag and I have to double check because it is so light. I also got this with the internal wireless card for Verizon and it works incredibly well! Previously I had the express card with an extra magnetic antenna which helped considerably with getting a good connection. The internal Verizon card in this computer actually works better than my old express card, even with the extra magnetic antenna! The wireless N card that I got with this computer also works better than any other wireless card I have ever had. As far as all of the bad reviews that I have been seeing here, I simply don't know what to say other than that my experience has been nothing but outstanding. As for all of the people complaining about Vista, be patient, you will get used to it. I also disliked it for about 6 months until I figured out how to use it and how to get it to work with all of my programs, now I love it. If you are thinking about getting this computer, I would tell you to get it because it is the best computer I have ever owned. By the way, I went ahead and sold my 12 and 17 inch computers in order to keep this one. The only thing that I can see that could be improved with this computer would be the touch pad, which is a little too small, but I have the bluetooth adapter and usually use my bluetooth mouse anyway.

ProsIt certainly looks the part
ConsAfter less than three weeks, the hard drive has to be replaced. This is my first Dell and possibly the last. I have had five laptops before, the last one for four years, none of them have suffered any kind of major failure

Review:It is insult to injury to that, after suffering an appallingly early malfunction, I have to pay for a long phone call to technical support, that there will be no attempt to salvage what I have loaded onto the hard drive, and there seems to be no means of compensation.

Title: Perfect laptop for the road warrior Date: October 3, 2007
ProsSlim and light design. Easily carried. Very workable and handy features. The price is right, specially when compared to other similar models.
Cons1. Vista!! Dell (& most other computer makers) refuses to install XP and all computers from them come with that slowest of operating systems, Vista. Its so awkward and slow, I may wipe the drive and install XP myself.
2. One G of ram standard. Everyone knows you need 2 gigs for vista and Dell makes you pay for it instead of including it.

Review:Overall, this is a good machine for those of us who travel a lot. Its very light, (4 lbs) and includes all the features you need. It works like a charm and is very quiet. Now if they would give the customers a choice of OS's so we could avoid Vista, it would be perfect.

Title: Looove it! Date: August 30, 2007
ProsGreat performance. Beautiful screen. Awesome keyboard. Convenient HDMI port. Two front headphone jacks. Slot load drive. Looks VERY stylish. Cool media buttons light up for a second when you push them (it's pretty). You can load the media center to watch movies, view pictures, listen to music, without having to load the whole system which saves power and time.
ConsOnly 2 USB ports. Not a huge deal because it also has bluetooth capability so you can avoid needing more than 2 :-) Tuxedo black leaves finger prints but that can be cleaned...

Review:Slingbox (www.slingmedia.com) looks p-e-r-f-e-c-t on it. Took me exactly a month to get it but it's worth it for sure. Almost feel bad using it around someone with something else because it looks that good ;-) Talks the talk and walks the walk!

Title: almost.... Date: February 10, 2008
ProsI'm a computer consultant, finally taking the plunge into Vista. I had hoped the 1330 would be a lightweight road machine that I could take with me to client locations. I got a nice system, 2.2ghz, 3gb of ram, 7200 rpm hdd -- not a stripped version. The thin screen is nice, system seems to work well with Vista and it's very sharp to look at obviously. Fun video camera software, as an example, is easy to use. Of course many pieces of software that was designed for XP has problems with Vista, but that's not this machine's fault. The design concept seems good - fit and finish are acceptable. I've not seen examples of the manufacturing issues others have listed.
ConsWhat limits the machine from being more than essentially a toy for me are a few surprising details. Oddly enough, the keyboard misses letters every so often - maybe once in 40 characters. You wouldn't think that would be annoying, but it's like someone is sitting there hitting the delete key randomly every so often. That's in full power mode - battery mode it's much worse. Support told me to change power mode to not step down on processor speed. So that kills its usability if I'm not plugged in. I've been typing for 20 years at about 60-70 wpm...first laptop I've ever experienced this problem with. Keyboard isn't the best to begin with, I might add - bouncy. The next problem is the DVD drive. It's not loud on bootup, but if you make the mistake of trying to play something like a DVD, not only is it so loud that you'll require headphones, but apparently the processor can't keep up with buffering requirements and you get that pause/fast forward effect as if you were watching something online. Final strike in my book is the limited screen resolution. Current gen graphics card can't exceed 1280 x 800? The screen is very wide - the icons are huge! Coding is difficult with so little ability to maximize screen space. Maybe I wasn't smart to consider the 1330 for coding in the first place, even on a limited basis. My mistake and I've paid.

Review:I'm not going to tell you a product you should buy instead. Lots of positive reviews - you can make your decision. I like the unit for a toy/personal machine to keep around for turbo tax, emails and surfing. Make no mistake, however, it's not a professional machine, and if you make your money the way I do, staring at a machine all day long, I think you can do better.

Title: was *so* close to perfect Date: March 17, 2008
Pros- price!
- lightweight with a decent sized monitor (13.3")
- features you won't find together on any other lightweight laptop. including hdmi output (great for connecting to your hdtv), slot cd/dvd burner, integrated camera and microphone, integrated sd/xd card reader, built-it slot for presentation remote control
- touchpad
Cons- extremely high pitched whine coming from the processor, completely unremediable
- instability of ms vista
- no blu-ray option (avail on the 15" model, however)

Review:i loved this machine. it had every feature i could have possibly hoped for, and for a really good price (<$1400 with basic features).
ultimately, however, the machine had to go back. the processor makes this very high pitched whining sound, whose magnitude varies depending on what the computer is working. i had patched >5-6 calls to tech support, and ultimately the answer was the same. the whining was due to a piezoelectric effect, generated by the processor in a low-energy C3 state. (you'll find more in the dell help section) basically, tech support said there was nothing to be done about the whining. it's intrinsic to the processor, and there's nothing that dell can do until the model is redesigned to incorporate a different intel processor :( unfortunately, the sound was basically giving me a headache. wearing earplugs to fend of my new machine was absurd. bulletin board posts seem to suggest that the m1550 suffers from the same issues.
dell customer service was really great. they sent me a replacement machine, but it was still plagued by the same problem. after a conference call between customer service and tech support, dell's agreed to take my machine back. it's been painful, but i think dell's done the best that could possibly be asked for under the circumstances.
will i consider dell again, certainly yes. but for now, i'm going to have to wait until the m1330 comes out with a new processor.

Title: XPS 1330 is a Great System! Date: September 9, 2007
ProsThe design is very light and portable, even with the 9 cell battery.
Dell Media is great, you can watch movies, view pics, etc. without having to load the entire OS. It boots rather quickly.
The biometric fingerprint scanner is awesome.
The LED screen is beautifiul and is easier on the battery
Upgrades are easy. I purchased mine with 1gb of RAM but upgraded to 2gb 1 day after I got the laptop. It took less than 5 minutes.
The media buttons are touch sensitive.
The slot loading DVD drive is very nice.
The included Expresscard remote can control videos, dvds, and presentations. It is very versatile.
ConsThe screen and the media buttons are sensitive to fingerprints.

Review:I ordered my 1330 on June 25 and received it on September 6th (I ordered it in red). It was a long wait but worth it. A friend of mine has the 1210 and when compared to the 2 he was extremely jealous. This laptop design is very sleek, almost artitstic, and defintely attracts attention. I would recommend using a least 2gb of RAM for this system as it really shines when it has ample memory.

Title: Not worth the hassle. Date: July 29, 2009
Review:I've owned this laptop for less than one year and have problem after problem with it. The LCD and motherboard were replaced 3 months after purchase and have since been replaced 2 additional times... both in the same week. The overnight shipping of parts to the repair guys is nice, but it's really not worth it every few months to not have a functioning laptop for 2 days at a time. Don't waste your time with this machine...bottom line.

Title: XPS M1330 Burnout Date: November 30, 2008
ProsNice Design
Good list of features
ConsNVIDIA Card burned up after 6 months. New motherboard required. The local repair guys won't even touch this model.

While the XPS M1330 looks good new, it has serious heat problems that cause it to die after less than a year. Skip this model and get the bigger 1540.

Title: Super Compact Laptop Date: March 22, 2008
ProsSlick design, compact and light. Great features including Dell Multimedia (don't need to boot up Vista) to play cds and dvds; Wifi Catcher (sees available wifi w/o boot up); fingerprinter reader, bluetooth; LED display which is extra bright, light and thinner than the standard LCD (I compared both); and the built-in web cam; Runs fast even with Vista. Doesn't get hot and is quiet. DVD slot player really isn't too loud as others have said. Includes extra not listed: laptop sleeve; remote control that fits in the keyslot, leatherette case for manuel and cds; and ear buds.
Love the blue touch sensitive lights for media play.
ConsWished it had more than 2 Usb ports. Earplug jacks located in the front can get in the way with the laptop on my lap. Otherwise, great computer.

Review:Check any extras you might want before final purshase. For instance, extra battery, bluetooth KB/mouse; warranty, etc. These cost much more when bought outside later. Specials change frequently, so check often, but if you snooze, you may lose.
Get the LED display with NVidia graphics card. You can't upgrade later, and both are worth the upgrade, and doesn't use more power. LED actually saves power, lighter and thinner.
Case still attracts fingerprints, even the RED color, although its not a problem.
I've had the computer for over 2 months, and had no problems. Overall, love the computer, especially the weight, form and build quality.

Title: Great product Date: April 1, 2008
ProsThis is a brilliant little laptop. It's small, light and looks very different to everyone else's grey or black machines. The LED backlit screen is well worth upgrading to as it gives a very bright and vivid display compared to the CCFL screen. The NVidia graphics card seems to provide ample performance for Windows Vista but I expect it would struggle with the latest games.
ConsSometimes while on battery, the laptop makes a very high pitched whining noise. This is apparently a noise coming from the Intel CPU caused by the piezoelectric effect when the CPU changes it's voltage to economise on power. The noise can be quite irritating but as it's so high pitched, many older people (30+) simply cannot hear it. It would be most annoying to teenagers I expect. There is no fix for this problem and it may bother some people, however be aware that many other laptops with this processor have the same problem - it's not specific to Dells.
